Why AI Can’t Replace the Human Touch in Design

As a Squarespace designer, I’ve been experimenting with AI more and more lately, mainly for creating content such as copy, snippets of code, and occasionally an image. There’s no doubt that AI is a powerful tool. It speeds up repetitive tasks, sparks fresh ideas, and helps fill gaps where you might otherwise lose time. However, through using it regularly, one thing has become clear: while AI is great for efficiency, it cannot replace the human eye for design.

Design is not simply about producing something that looks good on screen. It requires intuition, a deep understanding of brand personality, and years of practice. Take logo design as an example. AI can generate basic shapes and text combinations, but it struggles with the finer details that make a logo truly professional. As a designer, I spend time adjusting typography—redrawing letters, refining kerning, and balancing proportions. These subtle decisions are what bring a logo to life and give it longevity.

For me, AI hasn’t affected my core design skills. If anything, it has freed up time to focus on the creative aspects that matter most. While I might use AI to help draft blog posts like this or to test out bits of code for a Squarespace site, the overall direction, layout, and style still need a human hand.

That’s why clients come to me as a professional Squarespace designer. They’re not just looking for a functional website—they want a site that reflects their brand and stands out in a crowded digital space. AI can assist, but it can’t replace experience, creativity, and the human touch.
